About Us
CHARLES & MICHELLE GIL (pictured here) - are the owners of Nuroc Dance Company and are both accomplished teachers who wish to pass on the joy of dancing to their students!
They both taught 1950’s rock n roll dancing for over 14 years and now predominately teach Modern Jive & West Coast Swing dancing.
During their early years together they were National Rock 'n' Roll Dance Champions. Numerous titles were won by both Charles & Michelle during the mid and late 1990’s. Michelle and her father, Pat Russo, won 1st place in the 'Father and Child' section of the National Australian Titles and Michelle also won 1st place in the 'Teacher and Student' section of the National Australian Titles.
In December 2004 Charles competed at the Marrickville RSL Rockstars Rock 'n' Roll Dance Championships and obtained 2nd place, beating a lot of Australia's best dancers in the Open Event.
Charles also regularly competes in the Australian Ceroc & Modern Jive Championships and usually places in the top 3 in Australia when competing in the Masters/Champions level.
In October 2006 Charles Gil competed for the first time overseas in the 'Boogie by the Bay' West Coast Swing competition held in San Francisco, USA. He won 1st place in the 'Novice Jack & Jill Division' and 5th place (with Robyn Everingham also from Nuroc as his partner) in the 'Novice Strictly Swing Division'. Charles & Robyn were the only 2 Australian Dancers at that time, to win or even place, in this competition. This was a huge achievement for our Australian Dancers and it really put our Australian West Coast Swing Dancers on the map in the USA! Hundreds of American's competed in both events!
In October 2009 Charles won the Strictly Swing Division of the Australia Swing Dance Championships in Sydney and also won the Open Jack & Jill section! In June 2007 Charles also won the Open West Coast Swing Division at the Ceroc & Modern Jive Dance Championships.
In May 2010 we are very proud to announce that Charles received some fantastic results in the USA when he competed at Swingdiego which is a huge West Coast Swing event held in San Diego. He received 2nd Place in the Intermediate Division of the Pro-Am section with Tatiana Mollmann, 3rd Place in the Intermediate Jack & Jill section (this event alone had over 140 competitors) and made the Semi Finals in the Open Division of the Strictly Swing with Bianca Faber (from Melbourne).
In June 2010 Charles & Michelle competed in 2 competitions and here's the fantastic results received:
